On 17 January 2023, Apple launches 2 variants of MacBook Pro. These are MacBook Pro M2 Pro and MacBook Pro M2 Max or simply M2 Pro and M2 Max. It is interesting to compare M1 Pro with the M2 Pro because they are very similar except some other features. Let’s have M1 vs M2. Many wanted to upgrade from M1 Pro to M2 Pro. MacBook Pro Comparision: M1 VS M2 | M2 Pro/Max VS M1 Pro/Max


1. CPU and GPU
The M2 Pro/Max has 10 or 12-core CPU, rather M1 Pro/Max has only 8 or 10-core CPU. The M2 Pro/Max also has up to 38-core GPU, while the M1 Pro/Max has only up to 32-core GPU. This means M2 Pro/Max Offers 20% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU than M1 Pro/Max. The M2 Pro neural engine has seen a 40% speed increase over its predecessor. The M2 Pro has 2 extra efficiency core which help to maintain battery life long-lasting.
2. Memory
The M2 Pro/Max can support up to 32 GB/96 GB unified memory LPDDR5 with a 400 GB/s memory bandwidth. The M1 Pro/Max only offers up to 64 GB unified memory. This is huge win of M2 against M1.

3. Storage
Both Laptop supports up to 8 TB SSD storage. The available storage models are 512 GB SSD, 1 TB, 2 TB,4 TB and 8 TB SSD.



4. Display
Both the Laptops are available in two models :- 14-inch & 16-inch Model. The Display did not change from last year. Both have Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED backlit display. The 14-inch model has 3024×1964 pixels, while the 16-inch has 3456×2234 pixels. The peak brightness is 1,600 nits. Both models support refresh rates up to 120 Hz and come with True Tone Technology & ProMotion Technology.

5. Camera
Also, the camera from last year did not bring any change. It remains the same as it was, i.e., 1080p FaceTime HD Camera and Advanced image signal processor with computational video.

6. Audio
The audio quality is also the same for both variants. They have a High-fidelity six-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers. Support for Spatial Audio when playing music or video with Dolby Atmos on built-in speakers. 3.5 mm headphone jack with advanced support for high-impedance headphones. The Only change is that in M2 Pro/Max HDMI port supports multichannel audio output.

7. Keyboard and Trackpad
This is again similar to last year. Backlit Magic Keyboard with 78 (US) or 79 (ISO) keys including
12 full-height function keys and 4 arrow keys in an inverted-T arrangement, and Touch ID with ambient light sensor. Force Touch trackpad for precise cursor control and pressure-sensing capabilities; enables Force clicks, accelerators, pressure-sensitive drawing and Multi-Touch gestures.

8. Wireless
The M2 Pro/Max has Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.3 instead of Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.0 Which means additional spectrum, more high-bandwidth channels, WPA 3 and 2 times faster. This is a huge and significant change in the new MacBook Pro M2 Pro/Max.

9. Ports
Both has a MagSafe 3 charging, 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SDXC, an HDMI and one 3.3 mm Headphone Jack. The difference is in MacBook Pro M2 Pro/Max is that it can now support 8K displays via HDMI port and 4K displays up to 240Hz.
10. Power and Battery
The new M2 Pro/Max has up to 22 hrs video playback and 15 hrs wireless web browsing in the 16-inch model, while the M1 Pro/Max has 21 hrs video playback and 14 hours wireless web browsing. In 14-inch models, the power adapter is of 76 or 96 W USB-C + MagSafe with 70W battery capacity and in 16-inch it is 140W USB-C + MagSafe and 100W battery capacity.
